A Limpopo farmer who allegedly shot and killed a 10-year-old boy he thought was a rabid dog will appear in the Thabazimbi magistrates' court today.
Micelle Nel, 36, allegedly shot and killed Sello Pete in July after mistaking him for a rabid dog.
The incident sent racial tempers high in the troubled town of Thabazimbi, with the majority of people wanting to take the law into their hands.
Nel is currently out on R10000 bail. He has not been asked to plead yet.
The accused told police he had received a call from a concerned worker about one of his dogs that had apparently gone mad. When he arrived, he said, he started chasing it.
From a distance, the accused said, he spotted an object that looked exactly like a dog and he fired shots.
It was only after firing that he realised he had killed a person and not a dog. - Selby Makgotho
