Shona Khona, the national education-through-sport development programme, continues to transform the lives of young people.
Through the nation-building project of Reckitt Benckiser, Metcash and Sowetan, two budding soccerstars will fly to Brazil to improve their game.
Tyroane Sandows, 11, of Gauteng, was invited back for a year and Thabiso Makena, 15, of Limpopo, will return for a two-month trial. They will undergo further training at the Sao Paulo Soccer Academy.
Gauteng lad Sifiso Mnguni, 16, was invited to join the Premier Soccer League club, Silver Stars.
Shona Khona has also boosted the fortunes of Kwanele Msibi and Tumiso Morerwa, from Gauteng, and Godfrey Molemela, from Free State. They were admitted to the South African Football Association (Safa) and Transnet Soccer School of Excellence in Ekurhuleni.
The first to attend the coaching and life-skills development camp at the School of Excellence from December 7 are:
Western Cape - Nabil Varland, Royston Kirsten, Mzwandile Maqwaka, Tawfeeq Abrahams, Ryan Kerr, Dale Abrahams, Kaleb Conradie and Ithaar Gafoor;
Mpumalanga - Bongiwe Mahlangu, Banele Khoza, Nkosi Thulani, Percival Khoza, Lebogang Mashego, Msizwa Yende, Thabo Masombuka, Bongani Mkhaliphe, Nengie Mbele and Shamase Ndlamlenze;
Free State - Matshidiso Kwalete and Kananelo Phore.
