A 31-year-old Swazi national, driving a luxury German car allegedly stolen from a Swazi magistrate, was arrested by Mpumalanga police in Ermelo.

The suspect, from Nhlangano in Swaziland, was arrested on Monday after members of the police dog unit in Ermelo picked up a signal from an activated tracking device.

Inspector Thabiso Ncongwane, of the police in Secunda, said the suspect was arrested at about 11.30am near Davel, about 40km from Ermelo.

Ncongwane said the police, on receiving a signal from the tracking device, spotted a speeding BMW 3-Series and tried to flag it down.

The car sped off and police gave chase.

Ncongwane said the driver of the BMW lost control of the vehicle in Davel. It then left the road and came to a halt.

"The driver tried to run away, but was apprehended."

Police found the suspect was a Swazi national and that the car, belonging to magistrate Musa Nxumalo, had been reported stolen on Sunday.
