A radio station manager and a senior government official have been arrested for drinking and driving.

l Pula Pula Mothibi, Lesedi FM's station manager, appeared briefly in the Bloemfontein magistrates' court on Monday after he was arrested for driving under the influence of alcohol on Sunday evening.

Mothibi was involved in a collision with a police vehicle in Harvey Road in Bloemfontein just after 10pm.

A woman police captain who was driving the police vehicle sustained minor injuries.

Sergeant Thandi Mbambo said that police were awaiting the results of a blood test to determine Mothibi's blood alcohol level.

The woman captain was later discharged from hospital.

Repeated attempts to get comment from Mothibi were fruitless.

l Also likely to appear in court soon - also for drunk driving - is correctional services commissioner Linda Mti.

"I can confirm that he was arrested.

"I can confirm the incident, but I can't comment on it," police spokesman Superintendent Chris Wilken said yesterday.

It is alleged that Mti was arrested last Thursday after being involved in an accident in Sandringham, Johannesburg.

A weekend newspaper reported that Mti had allegedly smashed his vehicle into the back of another car.

He allegedly asked the police officers who arrived at the scene: "Do you know who I am?"

Mti was apparently later released on a warning.
