Soccer loving South Africans are bracing themselves for a big announcement tomorrow.
Shona Khona, an education-through-sport development programme for boys and girls, aged between 10 and 16, will declare how 12 local youths, who went to Brazil's Sao Paulo Football Club soccer coaching and life skills development, performed at the institution.
The 12 youths saw themselves jet off to Brazil after they won the Shona Khona 2010 campaign. They won the main prize in the campaign which saw 180 aspiring coaches and soccer stars participate at the Ekurhuleni's school of excellence. The youths went to Brazil after impressing their mentors.
Former Kaizer Chiefs striker Marks Maponyane was one of the trainers who helped with the selection and training of the youth.
Reckitt Benckisser, Metcash and Sowetan
are the key partners in this initiative aimed at developing soccer role models ahead of 2010.
To enter the campaign, entrants had to collect stickers from specially marked Vanish, Nugget, Dettol, Easy Off, Bang or Mortein Target products. Entrants had to either SMS or post the unique numbers found on the products.
The announcement will be made tomorrow during a ceremony to honour the participants.
