AGENCIES EXPELLED: Eritrea has ordered two more international aid agencies to leave the country, bringing to at least 11 the number of such groups expelled this year.

The government said yesterday the services of the International Rescue Committee and the Samaritan's Purse, both of which use Eritrea as a base for operations in Sudan, were no longer needed. - Sapa-AFP

MINERS ENTOMBED: Forty-seven people are feared dead after a gas explosion at a coal mine in the Chinese province of Shanxi.

Seventeen bodies were recovered yesterday from the Jiaojiazhai mine near Xinzhou, and little hope remained of finding the remaining 30 miners alive after Sunday's blast. - Sapa-DPA

VIRGINS PREFERRED: Nearly two-thirds of young Indian men expect the woman they marry to be a virgin, but nearly half have had sex with prostitutes.

A survey of men aged between 16 and 25 found that 49 percent claimed to have had sex with a prostitute. But 63 percent said they expected the woman they married to be a virgin. - Reuters
