The taxi strike, planned for Monday, is temporarily off, pending the outcome of a meeting between the National Taxi Alliance (NTA) and the Transport Department next Friday.

NTA spokesman Alpheus Mlalazi said they have received a letter from Transport Minister Jeff Radebe asking for the meeting.

"We want to listen to the government's proposal and hopefully our concern will also inform government decisions regarding the industry," Mlalazi said.

He said they have not abandoned their intention to go on a week's strike should the government ignore their ultimatum to renegotiate the taxi recapitilisation programme. NTA is demanding recapitilisation be scrapped immediately.
