A Spar supermarket in Mpumalanga is offering a R10000 reward for information that leads to the conviction of the people who stole more than 300 shopping trolleys.
The chain store in Nelspruit announced the offer this week after police investigation led nowhere.
Store manager Alex Stylianou said the trolleys were stolen last week.
He said that during trading on Sunday a shortage of trolleys was noticed.
"But it was only on Monday that the person responsible for the trolleys informed us that trolleys were missing," said Stylianou.
He said he believed that whoever stole the trolleys made off with them in a truck.
The store has had to borrow trolleys from neighbouring branches.
"We have alerted many outlets countrywide of the theft because we believe whoever is responsible for stealing our trolleys will try to sell them to other stores."
Eric Sevenster, of a security company that guards the supermarket, refused to comment.
Stylianou said anyone with information about the theft should phone (013) 752-7825.
Some alert person could be R10000 richer very soon.
