Warriors in way of rich cup pickings

Sipho Mthembu

Lamontville Golden Arrows will be looking for their first victory since their famous 1-0 win over Mamelodi Sundowns on September 13.

The KwaZulu-Natal team travel to Greenpoint Stadium to take on Ajax Cape Town in the first round of the rich Telkom Knockout Cup tomorrow evening. Just like Arrows, Ajax have also won one game this season but are sitting in mid-table after drawing four and losing two.

The Urban Warriors welcome Dominic Isaacs back from suspension after he picked up three yellow cards. Greek international Christos Kostis could start for the first time in front of the Ajax home crowd. Kostis has been out with a hamstring injury picked at training two weeks ago.

Another positive for Ajax is that Malawian international Russell Mwafulirwa has finally found the net, getting the equaliser against Santos last week. Four teams have already bombed out of the tournament.

Bidvest Wits went down 2-1 to Kaizer Chiefs on Saturday and AmaZulu also lost 2-1 to Mamelodi Sundowns. Jomo Cosmos were beaten 1-0 by Santos and it took a penalty shootout for Silver Stars to beat a stubborn Bloemfontein Celtic 4-3.
