Police left singer Lebo Mathosa's earring lying on the ground after clearing the scene of her fatal accident.

The earring was then picked up by photographer Lucky Nxumalo when he arrived on the scene later that morning.

"When I arrived on the scene all that was left of the superstar after the scene had been cleared was a red rose, and a bronze chandelier-type earring," he said.

Mathosa, 29, was killed in an accident on the N3 highway near Germiston early last Monday morning when her driver lost control of a Toyota Prado and it crashed into a tree.

The 20-year-old driver was not injured and has made an affidavit to the police about the event.
