The 30 Seconds to Soar Challenge is under way.

Anything artistic goes in this competition which is sponsored and organised by Philips South Africa, together with Sowetan, as part of the Aggrey Klaaste Nation Building Foundation.

Soar - Supply Opportunities and Achieve Results - was started three years ago to help improve the lot of six schools in Gauteng.

Encouraging pupils to excel in the arts by giving them a platform to showcase their talents, the challenge is a spin-off of the popular international television series 30 Seconds to Fame.The challenge started on Friday at six schools and continues up to this Friday with 120 contestants from grades 1 to 12 taking part. The winners of the Soar Art Competition, with the theme 2010 Soccer World Cup, are: l Pupils in grades 1 to 2: Philip Koster, Dipuo Randima and Tiaan Nel from Sonitus.l Pupils in grades 3 to 5: Jaqueline Williams from Wilhemina Hoskins; Thapelo Matlala from Ditau; and Luzuko Golela from Everest.l Pupils in grades 6 to 7: Zavian Botha and Leonard Solomons from Dowlinglaan, and Jorita Jere from Everest. l Pupils in grades 8 to 9: Mokgadi Mehlape from Sonitus.l Pupils in grades 10 to 12: Bianca Steyn, Buredine de Klerk and Juanita Kriel from Sonitus. 30 Seconds to Fame.
