The competition is seen by organisers Blue IQ Investment Holdings's chief executive Nomhla Canca as one way of providing Gauteng with a steady supply of young entrepreneurs and professional, business-minded youths.
Smart Young Minds invites pupils to submit smart business ideas to be judged.
Canca believes that the competition can help to grow Gauteng's economy and make the province a better place.
Smart Young Minds was launched in late 2002, but there was a lull last year.
Next year pupils will be challenged to focus their elegance, creativity and common sense to develop smart ideas for the fields of business tourism, information technology, manufacturing and logistics.
Entry forms and competition criteria are to be distributed to high schools throughout Gauteng from February.
The Smart Young Minds competition will close in June, giving pupils about four months to plan, test and submit their proposals.
