Matriculants at Orlando High School were in high spirits after writing their accounting exam yesterday.

The examinations at the school are the first to be written since it merged with the neighbouring Altem High School.

All 173 of the Orlando High matriculants wrote the accounting paper at standard grade.

Mbulelo Brown, 18, said he had found it easier than he had expected.

"The paper was nice and easier than the trial exam.

"I had studied hard for it and I was prepared.

"I want to study either information technology or human resource management at the University of Johannesburg next year."

Xolani Kom, 19 who also intends to study information technology, said he found the paper easy and wrote it with no difficulties.

Peggy Tiger, 18, was not as enthusiastic.

"The paper was in-between. I was prepared, but found some parts, such as the partnership questions, very hard.

"Some questions just did not come out the way I thought they would.

"I want to pursue media studies at Boston College next year because I was impressed when the institute presented the course during a visit to our school," said Tiger.

Lesego Sebolai, 20, said he was caught by surprise by some questions, but managed to finish the paper.

"I did not expect some of the things, but sections like the cash budget boosted me.

"I'm planning to start my own business next year," he said.
