A confession made to the police by one of the two accused in last year's murder of Carletonville teenager Kalin Jooste has been declared inadmissible, Beeld said yesterday.
It said Judge Jan Hugo made the ruling in the Ramsgate high court on Monday.
This came after Vukile Sinama, 20, testified he was tortured after his arrest, saying he made an incriminating statement because he feared for his life.
The pair allegedly attacked Jooste, 16, and her friend on December 20 in Margate. Jooste was stabbed and killed.
Sinama told the court that police inspectors Ernest Nkabane and Basil Crouse slapped him and then choked him with a tube.
Another policeman shocked him with an electrical cord attached to his little finger, Sinama said. - Sapa
