A Limpopo man is up on a murder charge after allegedly violating his wife with a burning stick.
The 29-year-old woman, of GaSekgopo village, near Modjadjiskloof, was taken to hospital in an unconscious state after her husband allegedly inserted a stick into her genital area.
The woman's husband appeared yesterday in the Modjadjiskloof magistrates' court.
Police said yesterday they did not know what had provoked the violent quarrel between the couple. They said that the dead woman had sustained multiple injuries.
"This is so Satanic.
"Our investigators who went to the scene found that the suspect allegedly used a burning stick to burn her private parts," police spokesman Superintendent Moatshe Ngoepe said.
The husband, who was not asked to plead, was denied bail.
The hearing was postponed to October 31.
Ngoepe said local residents were furious over what had happened, and described the attack as "immoral".
He said he had advised them not to take the law into their own hands but to let the law take its course.
Ngoepe said he had told them that violence should never be resorted to in family disputes, but rather "to seek advice" from either the police, social workers or religious leaders.
