Blacklist saga exposes SABC

SABC group chief executive Dali Mpofu's refusal to admit that they fumbled in handling the blacklist saga contradicts his earlier statement.

SABC group chief executive Dali Mpofu's refusal to admit that they fumbled in handling the blacklist saga contradicts his earlier statement.

He said: "If ever the charge of political bias can be proven or sustained, the perpetrators would have to be rooted out as enemies of democracy and the people of South Africa."

Despite the spin on the issue, it is public knowledge that the SABC reported lies when it said the commission found no evidence of a blacklist of certain commentators. The commission found evidence of blacklisting in the news department as well as practices that violated the SABC's own editorial code.

Instead, the SABC chose to suppress the report of the commission by using legal technicalities fraught with double standards that the perpetrators hid behind.

When the public protested against this malaise and half-truths at the SABC, they labelled them "black-haters pushing a neo-liberal agenda and their black surrogates". Their views are distorted and dismissed as a "neo-liberal agenda to hijack the new democracy", despite the ruling of the judiciary on the matter.

Put simply, the notion that the SABC is shutting out views is not without basis. The top brass want people to eat out of their hands without question. This dictatorship will not go unchallenged.
