A NEWLYWED bride ran naked through a hotel in terror when her drunken husband attacked her after their reception.

Melissa Kirby, a former Come Dine with Me contestant, was getting undressed in her hotel room at the Kingsmills Hotel in Scotland after her wedding reception.

The couple celebrated their marriage at a reception held in February.

She said something to her newly-wed husband about his sister and his son which seemed to have annoyed him.

Prosecutor Kelly Mitchell told the court: “He began punching her on the body, shoulders and sides and then there was a struggle.

“He pinned her arms with his knees, put his hand over her mouth and nose and she was struggling to breathe. He then punched her again on the body and once more placed his hand over her mouth.

“She managed to wriggle free and ran to reception. She was completely naked and hysterical. She had bruising but did not need hospital treatment.”

Alexander Tulloch, the husband in question, who has known Melissa since school, was tearful as his behaviour was described to the court.

His lawyer, Marc Dickson, said: “He accepts he should not have reacted in this way. Both had taken alcohol and he snapped. It has never happened before.”

Dickson added: “The day was meant to be one of the happiest and one of the most memorable and it was certainly one of the most memorable – but for all the wrong reasons.”

“Only time will tell how this affects the marriage. There are considerable bridges to be built here.”
