America has a new law requiring TV broadcasters to back down on the volume of those pesky commercials that suddenly blast your eardrums.
.
The CALM (Commercial Advertisement Loudness Mitigation) Act requires broadcasters to install technology ensuring that commercials air at a volume no louder than the programmes in which they appear.
CNN reports that the CALM Act, which originally passed at the end of 2010, finally goes into effect today.
The law also grants the FCC the authority to regulate the volume of commercials, so the new law will be enforced.
JUST FOR FUN, HERE'S A TV-RELATED CARTOON:

I agree with this law. I think it must also be implemented here in SA. Have you noticed how you almost always lower the volume during ad breaks.Report Abuse

I have noticed that e-TV & eNCA sound during adverts is high lately, I have lower the volume everytime an advert is flighted and this is very irritating especially during news. Can someone just inform them to tone done or check their broadcast settings.Report Abuse

@Nincompoopagreed, eTV is the biggest culprit. some marketting fool must have convinced them that a louder volume increases sales.
