Australian beachcomber gets to keep gold bar

An Australian who handed in a gold bar she found on a beach near Sydney was given it back by police after no one claimed her 18,000-Australian-dollar (18,540-US-dollar) find, news reports said.

The unnamed 24-year-old came across the bullion at Forresters Beach six months ago, the Newcastle Herald reported.

The ingot had a serial number but efforts by police to trace the rightful owner were unsuccessful, leading some to suggest the precious metal was the proceeds of crime.
