Thousands of half-naked maidens danced for Swaziland's King Mwsati III but a dire economic crisis is threatening to dampen popular fervour at the annual "reed dance" celebration.
i'm bombing King Mswati if they force him to stop the Reed dance.

All I can say there is nothing wrong with tradition even though I`m not a Swati and I don`t have daughters , had I had daughters I would send them to the reed dances , to me its a very important event in African culture if you look at all the attacks aimed at African cultures ,
Keep up the good work king , up hold your culture Report Abuse

King Mswati is down right uncircumcised idiot. That's why boys should under go initiation period to become real man. Mswati, Zwelithini, Zuma and Malema will never be real men. Real men like Mandela, Mbeki, King Sekhukhune, King Moshoeshoe, will never be compared with uncircumcised boys like Mswati, Zuma and Zwelithini. The actions of boys distinguish themselves from those of mature men. Look at Zuma...the idiot who sleeps with his friends' daughters, let alone impregnating them. Report Abuse

To label traditional dress as half naked is not only myopic but derogatory. I am Swazi born and bred and very proud. When I am dressed in my Swazi attire I don't need to be labelled as half naked - this is who we are, this is what sets us apart from other nations, this is what identifies us. Someone who doesn't know where they come from surely do not know where they are going to.
I like the BaTswana dance and the way they dress. For me, they are not half naked.
The comment by Kukuyalethosa is very unfortunate and I have no respect for someone who has no respect for other people. And for your own information we don't have to go to the mountain to be men. I'm a man, I never went to the mountain to circumcise bcos that's not my culture. Im circumcised bcos I wanted to and circumcision does not identify me. In Swaziland we take pride in our cultural events and traditions. Whatever economic and political challenges we might have, we are still Swazi and will not exchange our values for economic freedom.
You can enjoy your democracy whereby even the state president has been reduced to a laughing stock by artists in the name of freedom of expression. You are African - where is your Africanness? Report Abuse
