Breivik deemed sane and sentenced to prison
Anders Behring Breivik was sentenced to a special prison term that would allow authorities to keep him locked up for as long as he is considered dangerous.
Breivik was convicted of terrorism and premeditated murder for bomb and gun attacks that killed 77 people and
The self-styled anti-Muslim militant, looked pleased as Judge Wenche Elisabeth Arntzen read the ruling, declaring him sane enough to be held criminally responsible for Norway's worst peacetime attacks.
Lawyers for the 33-year-old Norwegian said before the decision that Breivik would appeal any insanity ruling but accept a prison sentence.
Going against the recommendation of prosecutors, who had asked for an insanity ruling, Arntzen imposed a sentence of "preventive detention," a special prison term for criminals considered dangerous to society. She set the minimum length of imprisonment to 10 years and the maximum at 21 years, the longest allowed under Norwegian law.
However, such sentences can be extended under Norwegian law as long as an inmate is considered dangerous.

But recently I read a description of his proposed prison. He will have his own personal staff, and will basically live in luxury for the rest of his term. I don't consider that punishment at all.Report Abuse

Why sentence this guy and not do anything about the general anti-Muslim climate in Europe that bred him?Post- 9/11 the media has systematically linked ALL Muslims with terrrorism. The general Muslim populace was nowhere when Al Qaeda and West teamed up in Afghanistan against the Soviets, why should ALL Muslims be held accountable when Al Qaeda and the West are 'fighting' eachother now?Even worse, Islam is brought into this mess, the West didnt ally with Islam against the Soviets, they allied with Al Qaeda ( who doesnt represent Islam in anyway).Report Abuse
