A Thai senator confessed to accidentally shooting dead his personal secretary with an Uzi submachine gun, reports said.
Boonsong Kowawisarat, 55, a senator from the northern province of Mae Hong Son, told police he shot his female secretary Chanakarn Detkard, 46, at a restaurant in Phrae, 550 kilometres north of Bangkok, the Bangkok Post reported.
Boonsong said he had taken out his 9 millimetre Uzi while they were waiting for the meal to arrive, and accidentally shot Chanakarn in the stomach.
The victim died from her wounds in a nearby hospital, Phrae Police Lieutenant Choosak Poonsawat said.
Police could not immediately arrest Boonsong because his status gives him immunity while parliament is in session.
