2 schoolboys arrested for driving double-decker bus

Two Hong Kong school boys, aged 12 and 14, were arrested after driving off in a double decker from a bus station, a news report said.

The two were spotted by a bus company worker as they began to manoeuvre the bus slowly from a parking bay at around 2am Tuesday (1800 GMT Monday), said the Hong Kong Standard newspaper.

According to police, the Kowloon Motor Bus employee managed to persuade the boys to stop.

The boys, who were identified by their surnames Wong and Ng, were released on bail after being charged with taking a vehicle without authority and driving without a licence. Wong has also been charged with driving without insurance.

The bus company was investigating how the boys managed to get on board the bus and start the engine. It is believed they may have used an all-access key which operates most buses in the fleet.

In 2007, two 16-year-olds were ordered to do community service and placed on probation by a court after stealing an all-access key and using it take several buses on a joyriding spree, crashing one of the buses into a lamppost.
