'As long as you are happy'

Court jails brothel owner for 15 years

A Taiwan court sentenced the owner of brothel to 15 years in prison for forcing employees to have sex with customers and burdening them with debts that they could never repay, reports said Tuesday.

The Taichung court ruling cited several instances of how Yang Ching-lin, 47, the owner of the "As Long As You’re Happy" brothel, had abused his employees.

He fined them 20,000 Taiwan dollars (677 US dollars) for refusing to have sex with a customer, 6,000 Taiwan dollars for not showing enough cleavage, and 5,000 Taiwan dollars for each kilogram they weighed over his limit, according to Apple Daily.

He also quartered dozens of women in a small room above the bar, where they slept on the floor, it said.

Former employees alleged that when they tried to leave, Yang would threaten to broadcast videos of them with customers, according to United Daily News.

The court sentenced Yang to 15 years in prison.

Taiwan’s government decided to allow prostitution in approved districts in 2011, but no local authority has granted approval for a such a zone in its jurisdiction, keeping the industry mostly illegal.
