Hong Kong is one of the planet's most densely packed metropolitan areas, with nearly 16,500 people living in every square mile.
These pictures, captured by Australian photographer Brian Cassey, show how some Hong Kong residents are forced to live a life of misery in cages measuring just 4 foot by 2-and-a-half foot.
Unscrupulous landlords are charging around US$200 (R1,600) a month for each cage.
The cages are packed 20 to a room, and up to three levels high.
The lower cages are more expensive because you can almost stand inside them.

Aren't cages for animals? And some people like Shakira, Madonna, Elton John and blogger Pointman blame God for these things. People like shifting a blame, it is the devil and people who are behind all the suffering in this world because of greed and self-centredness. For the love of money is the root of all evil. Some people spent R500million on a celebration while the poor and their hungry children scratched their tummies and some died.Report Abuse

Unbelievable!!Count your blessings when you live in the RDP house. Stop toyi-toying for everything, wake up and make a living for yourself and stop this behavior of demanding freebies from the government.

no-one deserves to be in the situation like this, its not fair to compare people sufferings, atleast the can afford to pay R1600 a month, some families here only survive ka R260 ya modende wa ngwana o 1.ka mo ke parrafin ka mo ke dijo, its never luck to be poor, some of the poor people here sleeps ko strateng just because they cant afford amazenki a secons hand to start isquater camp.Ka winter on the streets of jozi you will end up crying seeing little girls at the age of 10-13 years roaming the streets looking for food ko di dustbins.

Is this meant to make us feel better, poverty is poverty no matter what shape or colour. At least they have cages to olock themselves safe in while most of S.Africans have nothing at all over their heads. If they can afford that much to pay for rent then they are better off than most poorest S.Africans.Report Abuse
