A Texas woman who for months was unable to qualify for food stamps pulled a gun in a state welfare office and staged a seven-hour standoff with police that ended with her shooting her two children before killing herself, officials said Tuesday.

It's really not a lot, you can barely survive with that.
The amount is alot when converted into rands,but if taken like that it's not,it's just like our gov social grants,what can you do with that amount??? Report Abuse

@Billyjean, this is a lot of money in the state of Texas where the cost of living is cheap. The food prices in the US are the cheapest in the world and this lady could add another hundred dollars to the $294 and could easy feed herself and two children. This lady didn't apply for welfare so she might have had another income so she was trying to get food stamps to balamce her budget. Report Abuse
