SA rejects Libya regime change

SOUTH Africa yesterday rejected foreign pressure to drive Muammar Gaddafi from power, saying Western-led bombings in Libya should be limited to enforcing a United Nations no-fly zone.

"We don't think it's an issue for outsiders to decide," Foreign Ministry spokesperson Clayson Monyela said in Pretoria.

"It's the people of Libya who should decide who should govern them."

South Africa supported the UN Security Council resolution to impose a no-fly zone on the country.

The ANC youth league has criticised the government's decision to support the UN resolution.
