Municipal manager arrested for job fraud

Accused of using fraudulent qualifications to get her job - paying R2.5 million a year

A senior Limpopo municipal official was arrested on Wednesday for allegedly using fraudulent qualifications to get her job, police said.

The 30-year-old woman was a senior manager at the Tzaneen municipality, earning an annual salary of R2.5 million, Brigadier Hangwani Mulaudzi said.

She had been working there for more than three years.

“According to information received, the suspect worked in the water affairs section of the municipality since November 2009 after applying for the post.”

She applied for another post in the Waterberg municipality last year.

She was caught when the municipality tried to verify her qualification in engineering from the Tshwane University of Technology.

The matter was reported to the police and the Hawks arrested her in Pretoria.

She would appear in the Tzaneen Magistrate’s Court on Thursday.
