Again the President is coming up with cosmetics solutions to the problem...freezing salaries for 12 months will not help in closing the gap between the rich and poor, it will not assist in having the community of Naas in Mpumalanga to access clean water, ir will not assist in having textbooks delivered in Limpopo, it will not assist a poor old granny in KZN who does not have electricity....The country needs a long term solution to fighting poverty... I do not see what this initiative is aiming to achieve. Is this aimed at appeasing mine workers? Unfortunately it will not work as they are past the self entitlement phase of their cause. To determine if we are dealing with rational individuals here would use a simple test; they should justify how they come up with the pay increases demanded.
I would have expected the president to have applied his mind and seen that this would cause a loss to the fiscus. The example that needs to be set is where govt cuts unnecessary spending instead.
Government is coming up with a strategy to reduce the number of strikes in SA.

The problem with JZ is that he is told what to say on almost every sphere of gorvermental policies and plans. What is actually freezing of CEO's salary increases going to do to an RDO and a poor unemployed on the ground? People want improvement in their lives not how much a CEO is earning. We must not come back and cry brain drain 12 months down the line. Long term solutions to our challenges are needed and i doubt Zuma is the right person to help this country sought about those solutions. Last month President of Malawi took a pay cut 100% of the people who were hailing her stated our President cannot do the same. Our President has taken this further by including a number of people MD's, Ceo's, MP's etc suddenly no one see the impact it will make. Hypocricy and hatred runs deeper than I thought.
Least said about newspaper sensationalism is the better.
1. A YEAR'S PAY:
President Jacob Zuma: R2.6-million
Deputy President Kgalema Motlanthe and national speaker Max Sisulu: R2.3-million.
Cabinet Ministers R2-million
Deputy Ministers R1.6-million
Backbencher MPs R889,000
Chief Justice Mogoeng Mogoeng R2.3-million
2.Two new road networks worth R582 million have been built in President Jacob Zuma’s village in KwaNxamalala, Nkandla
I find it difficult to understand how Zuma's loyalists are still behind him being elected for the second term when lobaba enza lezinto azenzayo. How does he expert people to cut off their bonuses because of him? Why doesn't he lead buy example and cut his first?
This DOUBLE-HEADED man is really costing us and running the country down. He's really a liability.
I don't know what to say anymore and am speechless.
Heee Bathong! monna o o jwang he? He must start by cutting the salary of his wives which is how many of them? cut their benefits completely. There is nothing makes me angry than the fact that each wife get an expensive car, free petrol, free of everything while people of Mpumalang have no water, while children at NW are not going to school because is too far to walk! Cut the salary of all the MP and leave the private sector out, as at least they are trying to help people some jobs while the MPs are sleeping at the parliament. Actually if they were earning based on performance maybe then we will see what they are doing. There is this minester of disabled , women and Children, I always ask what is she doing? lots of them that one of labour hey bathong they getting money for nothing. Let us not make too much speculations and predictions about the future, intead of taking one step at a time. If non of us predicted this strikes whereas we agree that the common cause is inequality, how are these analysts sure now that freezing salary hikes wont solve the problem.
Let us implement it for a start, without too many speculations and come to judgement being guided by the outcome. I know no one wants to come out of a comfortable zone, it is the same thing with the strikers who persive themselves as negleted and exploited, whilst the CEOs are enjoying salary hikes. Workers are the contributers to this economy, as their strikes affect it, hence if something is done to acknowledge their contributions, like freezing salary hikes for CEOs to boost those of the grassroot workers on the floors, we are more unlikely to see the strikes of this scale in the foreseeable future. Workers are human beings as well with brains , they dont need to be undermined, they can see people splushing millions from the same productions where they are paid hundreds, hence that thousands sea gap is a cause of striking concern. I'm disappointed that none of those who comment here noticed the hypocrisy being displayed by the economic analysts ( spokespersons of capital). Instead as always we direct our missiles at the poor Zuma. He is no saint though. If freezing salary increases for the bosses will cost SA due to loss in tax revenues, then why is it a roblem for workers to demand salary increases? Why do the same analysts complain when workers demand high salaries? Are the workers not paying taxes. Does it also not benefit SA due to high tax revenue? Those who are enlightened please explain this to me. Report Abuse

That's the real issue that our government is running from, they afraid to tax the companies more money or have a law that allows them to pay the workers more in order to redistribute wealth. a salary "Freeze" to a manager that has shares in the company is nothing cause they will be getting that money back from share of profits, which will rise due to the salary hikes and kept bonuses. This is how our government protects the eLites of this country. They were suppose to say pay the workers more. Report Abuse
Salaries should be increased only for low earning employees or the increament should be like R1500.00 for everyone and not use 7% across the board because 7% for CEO does not translate the same as 7% for ordinary workers. Report Abuse

What difference does it make if the government lose any revenue if bosses' pay are frozen? There is far too much money in the coffers as it is hence the splitting of four provinces to nine. Imagine all the salaries being paid non-productive 'managers' aside from all the corruption. The country is not as important as enriching oneself as is the present case. Not a day goes by without the government been shown or exposed for maladministration. So, begin with the freezing of pay for high earners as it will keep costs down all round. Each year companies set higher targets despite good returns on most occasions. Why should we pay 'availability charges' for telephone lines and water and electricity plus tax when those have been inherited from the previous government years ago. Imagine paying for water pipe that is not maintained for over 20 years, yet each year we are forced to pay inflated charges each year! Report Abuse
