The petrol price will rise by about 1,9% a litre on Wednesday 3 October, due to higher international prices and a weaker rand currency, the energy department says

@Tabza325is Boycotting petrol in an attempt to drive the price down is close to impractical. Some of us still need to drive to work, otherwise use buses/taxis (which in turn need petrol, so they will relay their increased costs to the passengers). And the increased demand for public transport will push up travelling costs if we rely strictly on market forces of demand & supply. Report Abuse

@Chef_BBM, I know most are used to the comfort of thier own transportation, I moved out of my comfort zone into a public transport, taxi fares are always going up with each petrol increase so it doesn't make a defference, as for buses in SA they are not practical since they are in selective areas, either way mourning about petrol prices all the time instired of doing something as consumers still doesn't change anything, this is why I've decided to use public transport during the week, by saying it's impractical means we are not willing to try anything but continue to mourn which hasn't helped so far, but I get your point.... @Tabza325is Perhaps that is the agenda that government is ultimately trying to push - "drive" everyone towards public transport, unaware that OUR public transport system is not as well-established as the Western countries', whose model I THINK our govt is trying to emulate. And implementation of the new initiatives is just plain poor. The Cape Town equivalent of ReaVaya fails to cater for the market that needs it most. The chosen routes are in the wealthy areas where the residents don't really use the service optimally, and the low-income earners of Du Noon/Atlantis are no better-off. Then again, that's Cape Town for you - animosity towards the lower- to middle-class. Report Abuse

@Chef_BBM, you are right the govt has been pushing us toward using public transport system based on what they see from overseas country's, sadly our transport system is not as well established as compared to developed countries. All I'm saying is if you can and have access to public transport then use it, but if it will disturb your schedual traveling between home and work then contineu using your car untill you can find an alternative, my point is we as consumers need to find a way out for ourselves, as pr1ces will contineu going up, if I can affect thier profits then I would have done my bid, the little we can do by bieng stingy with our money the less profits we put in their wallet, the little voice we have....
