it depends on where you bu your stand...in affluent areas a goood 1000m stand can go for as much as 600K and building material goes up every year, bulders they charge at a square metre which also goes up every year.

with an existing house you can always negotiate the price but you can not do the same with building from scratch

You so right ,

Me and wife we cart about these, really it is costly to buy a brand ew house, eg, RBA house
Than compare to buy already existing house.(even a town house is great)

in RBA house :you have to do the following : out bugler proof, install gate, build wall fence,do the kitchen as per your wife standard, tilling ,decoration (from sratch) ,garage etc of which they will cost you upto R120000.00

While existing house : renovation are not that expensive especially if the house was well look after
2nd : very old house, Electrical component, gyser and plumbing system might as per old standard that it can cause you upto R50000 to correct it.( e.g old pipes have a lead which causes cancer, old gyser are too big (400-500 liter) and they use old thermostat which uses more electricity.check drainage system as the pipe burst, you will never notice it until your lawn ,drive path start raising....

Nonsense,it is just a trap for you guys to pay a long bond I mean 20 years is half ones life.better save and build your dream house in 5 years not pay a small house for 20 year

The article doesn't clearify what do they mean by "a new house". My understanding is that one built from the scratch by the developer, your RBS's, Safrich, Cosmopolitan, etc. Yes , those are expensive compared to existing houses. But there is another option of having your own home and that is saving the money or even getting a personal loan of half the amount requested by the developer and build your dream home in less than 5 years, instead of paying a bond for 20 yrs (recently they can even make it up to 30).
