The retrenchment will be massive and I see this happen before year end or early next year, the shareholders will not part with that amount of money for the sake of miners that I know!!!

Zuma does not work for Lonmin, or does he? The last time I checked, Zuma was president of the Republic of South Africa. This country has had presidents who served before Zuma and they were not volunteers, they all earned their salaries and and also received increases, stop bitching about the president's salary because it will never change irrespective of who the president is, the least you can do is to try, try very hard to also become president of your local stokvel.

Back to the real issue of Lonmin, it is very clear that we the public were lied to about how much the miners earned. The lowest paid at Lonmin (general workers) are receiving 22% ( R 1400), that takes them to just above R 9000. If indeed they earned R 4000, that would only translate to R 5 400. People died because of lies, repeated lies that started to sound like the truth.

The real truth will come out when Lonmin starts retrenching, I am certain AMCU and Julius will not set foot at Wonderkop for fear of what the miners will do to them. Only time will tell..............

I feel sorry for the Lonmin workers is retrenchments have to take place, I can't say they deserve it, everyone deserve a quality of life, cost of living is too high, inflation rate is rising exponentially and salaries are stagnant. Some people I work with, take home more than R10,000.00 above my salary, they are non-performers, the issues of salaries are very frustrating. That is why people are resorting to drastic measures.

Spot on, as for me I can see Hegelian dialect at play here. Thesis: Low salaries -> protests -> retrenchments -> unemployment -> poverty ->crime + Lack of service delivery + corruption & greed, Antithesis: more protests + looting + damage to property + killings
Synthesis: New World Order

=======================================================
This Nalla is 100% right all these caused by greediness of the employers and R504-million is nothing compare to what these poor employees have lost after all these years, why do they worry for such peanuts?
If mining industry(bargaining council) doesnt sit down with all mines to ask them to give their employees what Marikana people got/better earnings this industry is gonna suffer a lot.

If they were real mangers they should have prevented that on the first day or week by engaging in negotiation. They waited until people dies and loose income. That amount is not even what they give to miners in a month so they can shut up and clean their own mess. Time wasted never regain. They should be asking themselves how are they going to do to increase production? and moved on. I hope they have learned from this stupid mistake, they have failed as managers.

The mine workers had the right to demand from Lonmin just as much at they give to Lonmin. Its sad that we keep pointing fingers and that we all susceptible to amnesia when it comes to the history of this country. The legacy of black oppression is that give a black man what you feel is good for him, as a white boss. Well black bosses exploits black labourers too but in the case of Lonmin it is clear that this country is not even close to what could be referred to as transformation. If people knew about Willy Lynch, they would understand that the protest for a better life (that anc has promised the poor) is nothing to fear. If people lose jobs that would be unfortunate

No,but for people who are in salary departments everything is pasted infront of their faces and we brothers/blacks we say everything to our friends in such ways everyone could know about his colleague's earning.I knew my ex superior was getting R65800+ whilst his task is to put his @ss on the chair then he leaves, and qualifications for managerial position or what the company's doing "zero".

I have been trying to tell everyone for ages that the thumbsuck figure of R4,000 was a lie. They don't even mention the various bonuses which are paid to the underground miners. Some of those rock drillers are taking home more than R12,5000 a month - some go as high as R15000. Not bad for someone who is considered semi-skilled

ktzo,

What do those miners do in the mines? There is a big difference between a rail-sweeper and a rock driller,
What do those miners get for a housing allowance? Most mines give a mining allowance of between 980 and 1,200.
Do those miners have garnashe orders on their pay or other deductions? Not many people get away with having no deductions on their salary slips

Lonmin planned to close down a shaft operated by Murray and Roberts on contract. This would lead to 1200 lost jobs. It had also cancelled plans for a new development, costing a potential 3000 jobs.

When they campaign they promise Jobs, when you vent your frustration they promise Job loss. That’s how vampires work; they drink blood of the innocence and laugh about it.

This is pure manipulation and labor dictatorship

That’s why FIRE is need during an uprising, to ensure that nothing is left of the vampires.

A perfect example is to look at the Earth Farm when it vents its frustration with an Earth Quake - it puts all of us in the same refuse bag; all colors like a traditional Sunday dish.

There is nothing such a thing as a simple 'rock drill operator' in Australia, They are rock face operators which means they drill, shore and blast. If you take the three jobs to do that here and put the salaries all together, they actually pay a bit more in SA.

I am not talking about the controlled fire in the Farms; maybe they need to borrow the evil spirit of the late Jonas Savimbi as a guide.

These mines must all be wrecked so the natural Earth Farm resources can rest in peace; otherwise they will continue to cause division and death in the market because of greed

Again I say, this country is full of Words is mightier than a sword type (amagwala), yet they believe in a religion that teaches wrath for victory and salvation.

Why can the same company not do the same here?
--------------------------------------------------------

Because salary isn't the only thing involved, another is productivity ( in which SA is among the worst in the world), another is mining there is more capital extensive, whereas he mining is more labour intensive to provide as much jobs as possible.

So while the miners in Australia may get paid more, they are 70% more productive for the same amount of labour than the US (which is seen as the standard for productivity).

P.S. Where did you find out they get paid the equivalent of R80,000 per month?

according to this site they earn around 6K USD per month which is about R51,000.
