CAs must be honest
ACCOUNTANTS should do their work with honesty and integrity, Finance Minister Pravin Gordhan said.
"The numbers that you produce have a wider societal impact," he told the SA Institute of Professional Accountants (Saipa) conference in Boksburg, Ekurhuleni.
"On your profession rests our expectations that you will do your work with integrity. You are called to contribute positively to the growth of the country."
Gordhan said the 2008 global financial crisis was a result of wrong decisions, and a lack of honesty and integrity. One of the lessons learnt during the crisis was that decisions made today affected future generations.
"If something looks okay this week or this month, it does not mean we are on the right path."
Gordhan said Saipa could offer work experience to unemployed graduates. He said research had proven that if people did not get jobs before the age of 25, it was difficult for them to find work.

Point of correction Mr Editor. members of SA Institute of Professional Accountants (Saipa) are not CA's. It an insult to call someone who spent 7 years of studying and passed all board exams a Saipa member as far as I know a Saipa member can be any one who has a mere Diploma in financial related studies..I take offence. Wld you please correct this error.Report Abuse

You tried your level best to put enough money under service delivery and leadership is using that money for its own benefit. You gave them budget and mini budget but they failed, come on.It is high time to change your mission.Bank enough money to people of South Africa because the GOVT is theirs.Report Abuse

@Killera1111, I am not a CA but I also agree that this is nonsense. I expected the article to talk about CA's but it talks about PA's (profesional accountants).SOWETAN is doing its best to continue its poor reporting. SOWETAN is so bad even in easy things such as soccer reporting, it battles with facts and mixes names of yesteryear greats with that of current players.

I hope he also tell the Auditor General Mr Whoever, that Minister of police is as guilty as charged with the wall build in Natal. You can't expect honesty if you at the top don't practice it. Stupids!Report Abuse
