over the years we have witnessed this trend. the fuel price goes up by 90 cents and goes down by 40 cents., 2 months latter up by 85 cents, and down by 35 cents. at the end of the day it means nothing to us coz each time it goes down, food prices never go down as well.

He said the situation in Iran - where the US imposed sanctions on the country and forced others to follow suit - had also affected the general fuel price increase in the country

now thats a BS lie. China and Russia are some of the countries that basically told the USA to fcuk off as they refused to impose fuel sanctions against Iran. in the BRICS group we are the only country without a back bone. our pres is a spineless leader.

That will be a relief indeed - even though the petrol went up over the months by more than R1 but 50c can still go a long way

Look at the Rand value. If it stays where it is, a reduction will be unlikely.
Why can't we go back to the days of a stabalisation system? It may not be the cheapest way to go but it at least allows you to budget effectively.

Atleast take it down by R1.05 it will be a relief, 50c is too little compared to how it rocketted up from R10.00 mark. and the wording "it could go up by" depending on the exchange rate then just leaves me hopeless..

This roller coaster pricing is leaving us feeling all dizzy. Leave the price as is for months at a time so that we budget effectively. This ride makes things pretty damn hard for us.

Minister, just construct more refineries so we can by fuel in bulks and work on it ourselves, that's called job creation. Even if it may take more than anticipated the fact is fuel will be cheaper tat the end of the day. What with your e-toll and the useless RAF and all that bull. In some other countries where experts and not comrades are put in relevant positions, petrol still goes for 90c. Believe it?

Can somebody explain this to me.Why are we paying for our crude oil in US dollars even though we are not buying from the US? What is the reason we cannot trade directly with the oil producing coutries in their currencies?

The US Dollar became the 'trade' currency just after WWII. Most commodities are quoted in US$, even if we sell to Mozambique, it is quoted in US$ - it is simply a trade norm.

Opec is the major oil producing cartel. They establish how much oil is pumped, when and where. There are some oil producing countries that don't belong to Opec but they are the minority. As minority suppliers, they go with Opec prices, Its in their best interests to keep the market stable and not create a price war as that would see them lose.

How about taking it down by R2.22?Hm?

For heaven's sake even a city golf 1 needs over R600 to be filled. I miss the year 2006 when a liter was R5.78. Those were the better days.

@maditaba
a side note over what MommaC just said. just months before the war in Iraq (4 th largest oil reserve in the world) Saddam had promised to stop trading oil in the US$ and rather directly with which ever country he wanted, in his own currency. That is why they faked WMDs and destroyed Iraq.

Also just before they attacked Lybia, Gaddafi had started a project to have an African currency so countries in Africa doing business will not have to use the US $

Now the BRICS (Brazil Russia China South Africa) group are starting a project to trade between themselves using their own currencies and stop using the US $. USA is too chicken to take on China and Russia at the same time so lets see. hopefully we will all stop trading with the US$ soon and let it di.e a natural death.

That isn't always practical. The world has always had standardised pricing according to a set currency. It used to change on a regular basis as to which currency was used as it was normally the most stable or the most trusted. Unfortunately that has been lost. It may be a good idea to have internal continental trading done using an internal currency but it remains to be seen which currency we would use. There are too many egos involved in Africa and not enough stability to currency.

I suppose we will at some stage all have to go through what europe is going through with the whole whole euro saga. I dont have facts but I suspect outside influence will be a major hinderance. The US will be the biggest loser if/when the Euro finally becomes stable, I will not be surprised to learn some US Bankers have a hand in the whole Greek/Italian/Spanish financial mess. With Africa it will have to take place in phases, like 2 three countries at a time. But hopefully after this generation of corrupt leaders die out.

BRICS, everything is on the table but its no secret the US is not happy with what's taking place, they are trying to dismantle the idea by influencing SA/Brazil

In April petrol went up by 71 cents a litre because of fuel levies, Road Accident Fund contributions and pipeline tariffs. These rises forced many taxi associations across the country to up their fares, putting commuters under severe financial strain.

>Hope the govt regulates this M O R O N S because everytime fuel prices go up they too go up but the opposite is never taking place. Jimmy Mannyi roll the democracy on the taxis as you tried with e-tolling son!!
