New car sales up 7% for January

NEW vehicle sales rose 7% in January compared with the corresponding period last year, according to the National Association of Automobile Manufacturers of SA. Total sales, including the total numbers by Mercedes-Benz SA, improved by 3144 units or 7.0% to 48251 vehicles from 45107 units in January last year.
New passenger car sales - including MBSA - rose 7.5% to 35488 from 32963 a year earlier. Total sales rose 2.1% to 12394 compared with 12144 a year ago.
