A 34-year-old man fell asleep after allegedly raping a woman in Cerhu village, near Butterworth in the Eastern Cape, police said.

He was woken up by the men in blue

He was arrested on Tuesday morning after his 51-year-old victim alerted the police.

Butterworth police station spokesman Captain Jackson Manatha said the crime was committed in the woman's home on Monday.

"We found the suspect still in deep slumber on our arrival, and he was woken up by the men in blue," he said.

He will appear in the Butterworth Magistrate's Court soon to face a charge of rape.
