Pauper's grave for Dash unless music friends cough up for funerals

May 15, 2012 | Sunday World | 59 comments

AT THE zenith of his career, kwaito star Brown Dash swam in pools of costly champagne, ate yellow cheese and caviar, drove flashy cars and lived in posh suburbs.

Why are people and the media in particular so obsessed about a person dying being poor? The fact is whether you d!e rich or poor. You don't take it into the ground with you. You leave those riches behind and your kids, sisters, brothers and w!fe fight for them.

I agree with your comment, I guess media wants something that will sell, they don't care about the dignity of individual when they are d.e.a.d.

@Shredder
True

@Sowetan it is not a pauper's funeral but indigent....... paupers is when you are buried without your next of kin knowing (both your death and funeral) and you given an unmarked grave.

Indigent, (as the name says poor), the state provide the basics, coffin, grave and hearse....... you family is able to pay their last respects and they get to know your grave. For indigent funeral you apply for it

i'm personally not one for flashy funerals, my in-laws both d'ied and we only when for light meals than this big flashy things as if we are having a wedding or party...suprisingly we didnt even spend more than R20000 in each of their burial. most ppl were complaining about the way we buried them without slaughtering anything, but who normally wake up and eat meat for breakfast at their homes? so like u guys said we bring nothing and leave with nothing, paying 100k for a coffin while u have debts and dependents to take care of doesnt make sense at all.

there is nothing wrong with what @ SHREDDER said, whether we d'ied poor or rich it's immaterial...the legacy or investments left for the surviving ones is another thing...so lets not confuse the two

i personally prefer a simple buri'al without a coffin and have all the money they intended to spend on those flashy things for my kids future...

I get you brother. but for some of us one of our greatest fear is dying knowing your kids are going to suffer. sure we must not priorotise material things but we must be realistic. this world is very cruel to the poor. you migh tnot be there to winess their suffering but just the thought of it is what drives most of us to work extra hard. for those with no kids, well thats another story altogether.

I also want a small and dignified funeral (no frills). I am going to be cremated and I told my family that they don’t even have to hire a casket (for display). The same pine box that would be sued for the cremation would suffice for holding my remains.

No cooking and no buses should be hired to transport mourners. Only my family and friends should attend and the urn (with my ashes) should be given to my baby and when she is older she will decide what she wants to do with it.

Told them that they can please crowds at their own funeral not mine as all the investments and property will be for my baby to enable her to go to the best schools, travel the world if she wants to.

We are actually contributing in making our artists dying poor. We must include ourselves in the blame.

n haai chief. piracy does not make one make wrong choices about their future. most of these artists become careless about their finances and forget that the music industry comes with a lot of dangers. from being a one hit wonder to drugs and se.x . they are not educated on how to take care of themselves as a brand both physically and financially.

Stop critisizing the dead, the family asked a hand in burying the late Brown Dash so what?,did you fucke#n have to make a laughing stock out of it.The editor who wrote this article should remember that Karma is a bitc#h.The fact that someone is financialy stable now doesnt guarantees that 2morrow will be the same.

Wise words indeed, U must be priest in ur next life.

However, without contradicting ma self, dying broke is a disgrace. We not gunnig for a R100k funeral here, but really now an Indingent funeral is definately not the ideal way of sending a relative off. I'd rather have family friends and the public contributing @least. R 20k funeral shud be ok atmost.

How many of the members here, dat are working and do not have a funeral cover, life policy e.t.c. Please lets not be hypocrites and say ok to sumthing meanwhile we don't wish for it upon ourselves.

@NGWAKO, shame on YOU. If i didnt know you or you had a different name i wud say you are not human
I dont know why this article was published, and an editor was supposed to proof read the article before it even made it to print. It is so INHUMAN of you as a black person to be mean as you did in your article about the dead.
It is not our business to know if Brown was penniless (either way we wudnt have benefitted nothing out of it) in his death but all was wanted from us as a nation was to be supportive of his family in their time of grieve.
Speaking like that about the dead, i believe you should have been taught better or i will say you parents did not do their job properly when raising you up and for that your children will suffer.
whether you that negative about Brown, all i know is he is resting in peace>>>>>>>stupid article
