Opinion: Lindiwe Sisulu is the best option for a female president

Of the three women that have raised their hands to succeed President Jacob Zuma, I think Lindiwe Sisulu stands a better chance by far than Nkosazana Dlamini-Zuma and Baleka Mbete. (Unlike the other two contenders) Sisulu's campaign is not associated with Zuma.

And, unlike Dlamini-Zuma and Mbete, Sisulu sounds independent and has spoken out against the ills that are destroying the ANC.

She has spoken against corruption, and has also said ministers linked to the Gupta family should be fired. She also previously said the ANC needs to renew itself. This is the truth that Dlamini-Zuma and Mbete have never spoken to.

The three women are members of the women's league, which was the first structure of the ANC to endorse Dlamini-Zuma.

Dlamini-Zuma is a bad candidate and the women's league had pronounced on her before the ANC opened the succession debate.

Zuma has also publicly endorsed her, saying she was ready to lead.

She has never said anything publicly about the leaked Gupta e-mails that expose how that family controls some ministers and Zuma.

The e-mails reveal the extent of corruption in government.

Dlamini-Zuma, who is also mentioned in the e-mails, has thus far stuck to the script when she addresses meetings and not shared her thoughts about the current state of the ANC.

In the e-mails, her name is used by the Guptas to obtain a visa while she was still Home Affairs minister. An instruction is given to an official at Home Affairs, with the family saying they have spoken to Dlamini-Zuma.

Maybe this explains why she is mum on the e-mails. She also does not seem to realise that the country is in an economic recession.

She has come out against the judiciary, which Zuma and his supporters see as being problematic and not allowing him to govern.

Dlamini-Zuma had said the government is generally working well but the opposition, at times, abuses the judiciary.

Mbete, on the other hand, cannot be taken seriously following the many mistakes she has made as a Speaker of parliament. She does not understand the constitution and the immense powers bestowed on her as Speaker .

Recently, opposition parties took her to the Constitutional Court over a motion of no confidence against Zuma, saying they want to conduct it through a secret ballot.

Mbete had said she does not have powers to allow for a secret ballot. The court ruled that she does in fact have those powers.

With all this, Dlamini-Zuma and Deputy President Cyril Ramaphosa seem to be the frontrunners and the numbers are on their side.

Sisulu has Eastern Cape connections and has been endorsed by the wormen's league in several regions in the Eastern Cape. She has to work hard for her campaign.

She has so far said the right things publicly, but that you are on the side of the truth will not make you a frontrunner.

You should know that in the ANC the numbers may not be on the side of the truth.
