A psychiatric home with 200 patients is going to court on Wednesday to force the Gauteng health department to pay it more than R2 million as the institution faces having to close its doors.

San Michele Home took in a dozen patients who were rescued from under-resourced NGOs during the Life Esidimeni debacle.

But it is owed more than R2 million in subsidies by the provincial health department – despite the North Gauteng High Court last week giving the department just two days to pay the money owed.

Eyewitness News reported that the home wanted Gauteng Health MEC Gwen Ramokgopa to be arrested after the court order was not complied with.

Ramokgopa‚ speaking on talk radio 702 on Wednesday morning‚ gave an assurance that the money had now been paid.

The home is situated in Brakpan‚ Ekurhuleni.
