Taxi and car collide‚ killing four‚ injuring 17

Four people were killed and 17 others injured on Friday night when a taxi and light motor vehicle collided on the R34 near Newcastle in KwaZulu-Natal.

“ER24 paramedics arrived on the scene at approximately 6.45pm‚ finding both wrecked vehicles in the middle of the road. Several patients were found lying around the two vehicles.

“Several other services were already found on scene assessing the patients. Upon closer inspection‚ paramedics found the lifeless bodies of four lying on the scene‚” said ER24 spokesperson Russel Meiring.

“Paramedics assessed the patients and found that all four had already succumbed to their injuries. Unfortunately‚ nothing could be done for the patients and they were declared dead by another service.

“Seventeen other patients were found on the scene. Assessments showed that the injuries sustained ranged from minor to moderate‚” Meiring said.

Paramedics treated the injured and then transported them to various hospitals in the area for urgent treatment.

“The details surrounding this incident are not yet known but local authorities were on scene for further investigations‚” Meiring added.
