The family of the woman who was found dead in her Eskom office at the Springs substation will on Wednesday be picketing outside the power utility to demand answers over her death.

Thembisile Yende’s body was found on Monday‚ 13 days after she was reported missing.

“We will be picketing outside the substation to demand answers from Eskom because we believe we deserve answers‚” said family spokesperson Mboneni Yende.

Yende said the family will be joined by Thembisile’s friends and colleagues.

“This won’t be a violent protest. It will be peaceful picketing. We just want the answers.”

The family is yet to make funeral arrangements as it is awaiting post-mortem results.

Eskom spokesperson Khulu Phasiwe told TMG Digital on Tuesday that the circumstances surrounding Thembisile’s death were not yet known.

“We will find out what the cause of death is when the post-mortem results are out‚” he said.

"It's foul play"

The family of slain Eskom technician Thembisile Lucia Yende, 30, whose decomposed body was found at the utility' s power station 13 days after her disappearance, suspects foul play in her death.

Yende went missing on May 17 after she was last seen entering the Pieterboth sub station in Springs where she worked as a technician.

Security at the station was tight yesterday as community members protested outside.

Yende's boyfriend, Paseka Modise, said a union member, who wished to remain anonymous, confided in him and the family that Yende was on the verge of being promoted to a supervisory role.

"He said many of her colleagues expressed disappointment in her proposed promotion to become the power station supervisor," he said.

Yende leaves behind a six-year-old son.

Family spokesman Mboneni Yende blamed Eskom and the police. He confirmed Modise's claims about Yende's promotion.

"There is foul play here. How can police K9 unit miss her body while they claim to have ransacked her office and the whole station?"

Mboneni said it was the family's initiative to search for Yende on Monday that yielded results. "Nothing was taken from her. We found her cellphone and handbag. We are still waiting for postmortem [results] to determine the cause of death."

Police spokesman Captain Kay Makhubele said Yende's body was found lying on the floor on a plastic bag. "It is possible that police sniffer dogs couldn't have picked her body during the search. Police will also investigate allegations that the CCTV cameras were not working at Eskom."

Eskom spokesman Khulu Phasiwe said it remained a mystery as to why the police's K9 unit missed Yende's body.

"Allegations that her disappearance and death was an inside job will form part of police investigations," he said. - Additional reporting Peter Ramothwala
