A man who is believed to have been stuck under a Durban bridge for two days has told emergency rescue workers that he won’t move until he gets food and water.

Rescue Care’s Garrith Jamieson said it was uncertain how the man managed to climb underneath the Connaught Bridge near Umgeni Road.

“Reports from the scene are that he has been stuck there for two days under the bridge and rescue personnel are trying to get him to safety.”

He said a fisherman who was fishing from the Umgeni River alerted police to the man under the bridge on Monday.

Blue Security’s Andreas Mathios said the man was asking for food and water.

Mathios said: “The man climbed onto the uprights between the girders where if you’re very agile‚ you are able to move. He says he won’t move unless someone brings food and water.”
