A man was killed when he was hit by a car while changing a flat tyre on the N2 near Ballito north of Durban on Monday morning.
IPSS Medical Rescue spokesperson Paul Herbst said medics had arrived at the scene to find carnage.
“It was a horrific scene. The wreckage of three badly damaged vehicles were at the roadside. One man had already succumbed to his injuries‚” he said.
Herbst said that a man had stopped to change a tyre on his vehicle with another car stopping behind him to assist.
“While they were working a third car smashed into the stationary vehicles.”
Herbst said that six other people were injured in the smash and were transported by ambulance to local hospitals for further treatment.
In another incident a man was killed when his car collided with a static crane in New Germany on Sunday night.
