At least one person was killed and dozens injured in a massive crash on the N12 freeway near the Putfontein off-ramp in Ekurhuleni early on Tuesday.

As many as 60 other people were injured and one of them was in a critical condition‚ said Netcare 911 spokesperson Chris Botha.

“We arrived to find that multiple vehicles had collided on the road …. It is quite a horrific scene‚ especially at the start of Human Rights’ Day‚” said Botha.

At least one bus and one taxi was involved in the crash. The cause of the crash was not immediately clear.

“The N12 will be closed off for quite some time as it will take a while to clear that road‚” said Botha.
