Police put out APB for ex-Platinum Stars midfielder Zongo wanted for questioning over rape

Police attached to Cape Town’s Bellville Family Violence‚ Child Protection and Sexual Offences unit are seeking the assistance of the public in tracing the whereabouts of professional football player Masibusane Zongo.

“He is wanted for a rape case that was reported in February 2013 and a warrant for his arrest was issued‚” police said in a statement on Thursday.

SAPS said he was 24 years old but the Mthatha-born Zongo’s age is listed as 26 on his soccer player profile‚ which registers his birthday as March 30‚ 1990.

He was a midfielder for the Premier Soccer League club Platinum Stars until last year‚ parting with the team under a cloud‚ after having previously played with Wits and Supersport United and even had a trial stint with English team Tottenham Hotspur.

In November last year‚ Zongo went awol from his new club‚ Royal Eagles. The coach Kosta Papic was quoted by Kickoff.com as saying he had failed to return after being granted time off to attend to personal issues.
