City of Joburg uncovers fraud and corruption worth R7.5m

The City of Johannesburg has uncovered theft‚ fraud and corruption amounting to over R7.5 million at Joburg Market.

The report details how three officials at the market‚ together with suppliers‚ allegedly defrauded the City by inflating the number of goods received via the market’s procurement processes.

“The City has opened a case of fraud‚ theft and corruption against all implicated officials and suppliers with the Hawks. The arrest of all those implicated is imminent‚” said Mayor Herman Mashaba.

 The three implicated officials have been suspended.
