Six bodies found next to railway line in Benoni

The bodies of six suspected illegal miners have been found in an open field next to a railway line in Benoni on the East Rand‚ police have confirmed.

The bodies all had gunshot wounds to the upper body‚ police said.

A passer-by called the police after he came across the bodies at about 9am on Sunday.

“It is suspected that the deceased were killed elsewhere and taken to where they were found as they were put in a pattern. It is also suspected that the deceased are illegal miners. The motive for the killings is still unknown and the bodies are not yet identified‚” police said in a post on Facebook.

“Police have open six cases of murder. Investigation is continuing.”
