Former cop spin doctor dealt blow by court

Former police spin doctor Vincent Mdunge was dealt a blow in the Pietermaritzburg High Court when his appeal against his five-year prison term for forging a matric certificate was dismissed on Monday.

Mdunge‚ then a colonel‚ was found guilty of fraud and forgery over a fake matric certificate in 2014.

Mdunge has been on bail while his appeal process unfolds.

During his trial‚ prosecutor Barend Groen argued that Mdunge failed matric in 1985 and wrote supplementary exams in 1986‚ which he also failed.

He argued the matric certificate that Mdunge used was a fake‚ had been tampered with and that the examination number on the certificate was in fact Mdunge’s Standard 8 examination number.

National Prosecuting Authority spokesperson Natasha Ramkisson-Kara confirmed that his appeal had been dismissed.
