A group of Congress of South African Students demonstrators‚ most of them in school uniforms‚ were pushed down Longmarket Street in central Cape Town by riot police after they almost clashed with about 100 EFF members.

Unaware of a crowd of EFF supporters just around the corner in Adderley Street‚ the pupils marched on police singing songs in an apparent attempt to antagonise them.

Police responded by pushing the crowd‚ consisting mostly of children but with some older people wearing ANC T-shirts among them‚ down Longmarket Street towards the Grand Parade.

The pupils chanted “Zuma! Zuma!” in support of the President.
