Clean shaven‚ long hair slicked back‚ dressed in a well-tailored navy blue suit‚ axe murder accused Henri van Breda made a brief appearance in the Western Cape High Court on Friday.

Van Breda looked relaxed as he spoke to his legal team before his pre-trial hearing started.

He was nabbed for allegedly murdering his mother Teresa‚ father Martin and brother Rudi with an axe at their home on the luxury De Zalze estate in Stellenbosch in January 2015.

His sister‚ Marli‚ survived the attack.

Defence advocate Pieter Botha‚ who previously acted for honeymoon murder accused Shrien Dewani‚ told the court that they are concerned with the way in which DNA samples from the murder scene were handled and stored.

They requested an expert assessor to assist Judge Elize Steyn.

“DNA might become relevant to this trial‚’’ said Botha.

The State agreed to the request and the trial has been set down for March 27.
